The school counselor works with students in an individual and small group setting to support them in areas such as friendship, anger management, grief, and peer mediation.
Students learn strategies in a whole group setting to support them in areas such as bullying prevention, character building, and conflict resolution. The school counselor utilizes the district's ReThink Education curriculum.
The school counselor provides behavior support and interventions to students. Some interventions include: behavior support plans, behavior intervention plans and mental health referrals.
The school counselor provides support to students in transition. Some transitions include: new to the school, change of teacher or grade during school year, Kindergarten to 1st grade, 5th grade to middle school or experiencing displacement or homelessness.
Response to Intervention-Behavior (RTI²-B) is a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) that offers a powerful, evidence-based approach for meeting the behavioral and social needs of students in Tennessee schools. RTI²-B is a promising framework for prevention and intervention within an integrated, three-tiered approach.
